E04 — The Cloud Café — Storyboard

Episode at a glance

Runtime target: 3:30 (210s) across 38 frames. Logline: When you get lost, laugh — that's the map. Mentor: Nori, passionate fox chef, apron, whisk in paw, perpetual smell of vanilla. Scene 5.1 — The staircase [00:00 – 00:30]

Frame 1 — Cold open: ground-level wide [00:00 – 00:05]

  • Composition. Low-angle wide. Dzino tiny in lower third, centered. Above him: cumulus stacked into a vertiginous spiral staircase rising into peach-cream sky. Frame edges left empty — the sky does the work.
  • Action. Dzino is still. One foot half-lifted, then placed back. Hesitation pose.
  • Lighting & palette. Peach-cream #FFE4C9 sky, cloud-white with faint gold rim-light from above (the café bleeds light downward without us seeing the source yet). Indigo body reads against cream.

  • Lighting & palette. Same. The gold from above gets a touch warmer as we look toward the source.
  • Sound cue. Wind softens. A second pentatonic chime, slightly higher.

Frame 3 — First step, glow ignites [00:09 – 00:13]

  • Composition. Tight on Dzino's foot and the lowest cloud-step. Profile.
  • Action. Foot lowers onto cloud. The cloud compresses very slightly under weight, then a soft golden glow spreads outward from the contact point in concentric voxel rings.

  • Action. Each footfall ignites a step. Glow lingers behind him as a fading staircase trail.
  • Lighting & palette. Sky deepens slightly toward apricot at the horizon. Cloud-glow trail behind.

Frame 5 — Hero ascent, sky reveal [00:20 – 00:27]

  • Composition. Behind-and-below hero shot. Dzino climbs into frame; sky opens above with the underside of the café cloud just barely peeking in at top.
  • Action. Slow climb. Crown leads. The first hum-bubbles drift down past him from above — out of focus, out of context. He doesn't notice yet.
  • Lighting & palette. Vanilla-warm light starts spilling from above-frame. First hint of indigo accents in shadow under the café.
  • Sound cue. Pentatonic top note. Café underbed bleeds in faintly — polyphonic chiptune, distant, like a kitchen heard through a door.

  • Composition. Up-angle, low. Dzino's silhouette against the apricot sky. The next step is a wide flat cumulus — the café floor.
  • Action. He pauses on the penultimate step, exhales (small puff visible).
  • Lighting & palette. Strong silhouette. Backlight gold.
  • Sound cue. Chime resolves. Café underbed steps up in mix.

Scene 5.2 — The Café [00:30 – 01:00]

Frame 7 — The Café wide reveal [00:30 – 00:38]

  • Composition. Slow dolly-up wide. The café occupies the whole cumulus plateau: a single fat cloud as floor, three or four cumulus tables, cumulus chairs, a cumulus counter at the back. Awning made of one long stretched cloud, scalloped edges.
  • Action. Camera rises to reveal. Dzino steps onto the floor at lower-frame, dwarfed by it. Hum-bubbles float lazily above the room.
  • Lighting & palette. Cloud-white floor with golden inner glow from beneath. Peach-cream sky beyond. Vanilla-warm pool of light at the counter back-of-frame. Indigo accents on signage and a tiny chalkboard sign that reads in voxel-glyphs.

  • Action. Round Souli hums; a soft sine-wave bubble rises from their muzzle and drifts toward the counter. Angular Souli hums; a jagged sawtooth-wave bubble rises and follows.

  • Sound cue. A barely audible page-turn sample. No hum from her — she hasn't ordered, she's reading.

Frame 10 — Cameo: Bruno with steaming cup [00:48 – 00:52]

  • Composition. Tight side-mid on Bruno at the opposite-side table.
  • Action. Bruno (bear) sits cross-legged-on-chair, eyes closed, holding a steaming cumulus cup. Steam rises in voxel ribbons.
  • Lighting & palette. Vanilla-warm spill catches one side of his face.
  • Sound cue. Faint exhale. No hum.

Frame 11 — Hum-bubble sky insert [00:52 – 00:56]

  • Composition. Looking straight up from inside the café. The "ceiling" is open sky filled with hum-bubbles drifting toward the counter.
  • Action. Slow drift. New bubbles enter from below frame, exit at top toward an unseen funnel above the counter.
  • Lighting & palette. Sky gradient peach-to-apricot with bubbles glowing in their owners' colors.
  • Sound cue. All hum waveforms mixed — a chord of laughs.

Frame 12 — Dzino orientation pan [00:56 – 01:00]

  • Composition. Slow horizontal pan from Dzino's POV across the room toward the counter.
  • Action. Camera moves with his head turn. Tables, hum-bubbles, awning ripple — all in voxel parallax. The pan ends fixed on the counter, where Nori is half-visible behind a copper bowl.
  • Lighting & palette. Vanilla-warm intensifies as we approach the counter.
  • Sound cue. Underbed hushes a touch as we close on Nori. A first hint of her leitmotif — the upward synth-flute slide, unresolved.

  • Composition. Mid shot at the counter. Nori in apron, whisk in paw, copper bowl in front of her. Camera slightly low, looking up at her.
  • Action. Nori whisks vigorously. Inside the copper bowl: actual STARLIGHT — literal twinkling pixel-stars caught in motion, swirling like cream.
  • Lighting & palette. Vanilla-warm pool. Copper bowl reads as #C77B3A. Stars in the bowl: white-gold pinpoints that streak as she whisks.
  • Sound cue. Whisk metallic ticks at chiptune-tempo. Faint star-chimes from the bowl itself.

  • Action. Dzino settles. The stool reshapes very slightly to fit him — cumulus furniture is alive but polite.
  • Lighting & palette. Vanilla-warm centered on the seat.
  • Sound cue. Soft poof as he settles. Café underbed continuous.

  • Composition. Tight on Dzino's face. The pink slice lifts to his mouth from lower frame.
  • Action. He bites. Eyes soften. A small, contented smile. Strawberry-pink steam puffs from the corner of his mouth.
  • Lighting & palette. Warm-orange wash on his face, softening to peach.
  • Sound cue. A round, rounded chiptune chord — major, comfort-coded. Almost-laugh exhalation. Not laughter.

Frame 22 — SOUR — wit puff [02:08 – 02:18]

  • Composition. Same tight close. Now the green slice.
  • Action. Bite. Eyes widen, then narrow. Cheek twitches. A single sharp puff of air through his nose — almost-laugh. The puff is visible as a small green pixel-cloud.
  • Lighting & palette. Electric-green wash, sharp contrast on his face. A flash of cooler indigo in his pupils.
  • Sound cue. A tight, bright chiptune stab. Citrus-shaped — short attack, fast decay. The almost-laugh puff is a sampled exhale.

  • Action. He looks at it. It rotates. He tilts his head, mirroring it. Long beat.
  • Lighting & palette. Indigo-shimmer dominates. Reality-warp on the slice bleeds slightly into the air around it — the cumulus plate itself wobbles a frame.
  • Sound cue. Underbed thins to almost nothing. A single sustained indigo wobble tone.

  • Action. He bites. His face does nothing for a beat. Completely blank. Voxel features held still.
  • Lighting & palette. Indigo-shimmer on his face, fading toward warm as the slice's energy enters him.
  • Sound cue. Total silence — café underbed cuts. One frame of dead air.

  • Notes. This is the held breath. The most important silence in the episode.

Frame 25 — THE LAUGH (hero shot) [02:32 – 02:44]

  • Composition. Wide hero. Dzino full-body on the stool, framed centrally. Background slightly de-saturated to push him forward.
  • Action. Head tilts back. Voxel mouth opens WIDE — square pixel mouth at maximum aperture. Eyes squint to crescents. His whole body bobs with the laugh. Hum-bubbles around the room ALL turn toward him for a beat — every customer registers this.
  • Lighting & palette. Indigo-shimmer rises off him like steam, transitioning to warm-gold. The café visibly brightens by half a stop.
  • Sound cue. THE FIRST PROPER FULL LAUGH OF THE SEASON. Real, lo-fi-recorded child-laugh layered with chiptune. Out loud. Not cute — real. Polyphonic underbed re-enters underneath.

  • Action. The slice disassembles upward into a small floating voxel-shape: the Humor shard. It pulses in rhythm with Dzino's continuing laugh. Each pulse matches a beat of the laugh underneath.
  • Lighting & palette. Indigo-shimmer concentrates into a single warm-indigo node. Pulse glow ripples outward in voxel rings.
  • Sound cue. Each pulse a soft sub-bass thump synced to laugh rhythm.

  • Action. Click. A new chord-voice enters audibly. His existing three-voice chord blooms into a tetrad. His indigo body brightens for one frame as the fourth voice settles.
  • Lighting & palette. Whole café brightens for a single frame of full white-gold, then returns to vanilla-warm.
  • Sound cue. The fourth voice arrives. Chord becomes a tetrad. Hold it. The tetrad is now permanent for the rest of the season.

  • Composition. Tight insert. Nori's paw places a small voxel paper bag in Dzino's paw.
  • Action. Bag transfer. Crumbs visible inside — pixel specks, faintly glowing in mixed pink/green/indigo.

  • Sound cue. Paper-rustle sample, lo-fi.

These reference plates must be hand-painted before any AI generation runs, and locked into the style LoRA / reference set so the episode holds shape across 38 frames.

  1. Cumulus-furniture sheet. A reference plate of every café fixture as cumulus: counter, stool, three table shapes, scalloped awning, railing. Show how cloud-edges round at corners and how each piece bears weight without losing fluffiness. Voxel grain must be visible in the cloud edges — not soft-blurred.
  2. Hum-bubble waveform library. Five distinct hum-bubble shapes locked to canon: sine (round, soft), sawtooth (jagged), square (boxy), triangle (faceted), and Dzino's own (to be revealed in a later episode — placeholder here).   10. Tetrad chord chart. Not a visual but a sound-design anchor: the four-voice chord with Voice 4 (Humor) labeled. From E04 onward, every episode must carry this tetrad as the chord baseline. Document the exact intervals and the timbre of Voice 4 so E05 can layer Voice 5 cleanly.
